Nicole Richie has already Twitpic’d hers and Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted wearing hers on the way to JFK. The latest iteration of the studded leather jacket, that is—this one from Katie Nehra’s Simone label. The L.A.-based designer is picking up left-coast fans, as they say, left and right. But the latest admirer of the Fall ‘10 style ($1,080), a cropped moto jacket with exaggerated lapels, is none other than Patti Smith. After hearing that the singer-turned-Just Kids memoirist was lusting after the jacket (spotting it on one of Nehra’s friends in Manhattan), the designer made sure to rush a jacket for Smith into production. “You can custom-order the jacket any way you want,” Nehra said, pointing to the exaggerated studs and last name emblazoned on the back of hers. “But for Patti, I’m going to leave all those decisions up to her.”The Studs Won’t Stop
In addition to his own collection, Giuseppe Zanotti, at one time or another, has been responsible for shoes bearing the Balmain, Proenza Schouler, and Thakoon labels. Still, ask any stiletto lover and she’ll tell you that she doesn’t have enough of him in her life. Zanotti has recently signed on at Vionnet to collaborate with designer Rodolfo Paglialunga on a line for the storied brand. Here’s why we’re excited: On the phone today, he told us that he’s focused on fit, fine materials, and, most importantly, proportion. There aren’t any “crazy fabrics” or platforms in the 20 or so models he’s designed for Resort. Instead, he’s put the emphasis on leather and (echoing Paglialunga’s evening-focused lineup) silk. Our favorite is this black and marigold sandal sling-back, but there are ballerina flats and the now de rigueur kitten heels in the mix, too. Look for them at Saks and other Vionnet retail outlets come late Fall.Giuseppe Zanotti On His New Footwear For Vionnet

“My husband doesn’t even really know what my day is like. I’m in the trenches,” Shareen Mitchell said in front of a camera crew for her new reality series at Madewell in Los Angeles last night. To L.A. and NYC vintage shoppers in the know, Mitchell needs no introduction. The actress and former designer, typically referred to simply by her first name—the namesake of her perpetually packed bicoastal vintage boutiques—has a cult following that’s been steadily building for years. “I’m not really about vintage; I’m not about the past. I want to be about bringing fashion to you at a price you can afford,” she said. Over her shoulder, shoppers were swarming three racks of vintage pieces (some reworked) handpicked by Shareen, which will be selling at in-store pop-up shops at Madewell’s Century City and Soho stores for under $100 as long as supplies last.Shareen Vintage Pops Up At Madewell
Where does she find the goods? “That’s always the question,” Mitchell says. “I work with independent buyers who source things and bring them for me to buy. But I also do a lot of digging. It’s kind of an excavating process for me in places that sort used clothing. It’s not easy. It’s dirty work.” It’s this less glamorous side of her profession that will be prominently featured in a new reality TV series, Shareen Vintage, which premieres on Planet Green this fall.
As for Shareen’s styles up for grabs at Madewell: Think loose-fitting and backless dresses in Indian prints and fifties party dresses (minus their linings). “I’m seeing fashion move to a very conservative trend. There’s a need for glamour, charm, lovely…I love the word lovely,” Mitchell says of the shift she’s noticing away from the strong, structured eighties silhouettes. As we’ve seen elsewhere, it’s bye-bye eighties, hello seventies—come fall, Mitchell will be serving up plenty of Me Decade styles, of which Phoebe Philo would likely approve. “I have so much of it I couldn’t sell the last four years because no one wanted it,” she says. My, how times have changed.

It’s a hat trick for Michael Kors: After being honored by the CFDA (with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award) and the Fragrance Foundation (with induction to the Fragrance Hall of Fame), Kors scored his third nod, from the Cancer Research Institute for his work raising awareness about and funds for breast cancer. Stella McCartney is expecting! The designer revealed yesterday she’s pregnant with her fourth sure-to-be-adorable child with husband Alasdhair Wills. Congrats to the happy couple (and to all those moms thrilled for what another kid might mean for the extension of Stella’s GapKids line). [Vogue U.K.]
Christophe Lemaire, while creative-directing Lacoste and preparing to take the reins at Hermès womenswear, has somehow found time to show his own collection off-schedule at Couture week. It marks his first runway showing since 2003. [WWD]
Disney’s Toy Story 3 comes out tomorrow, and to celebrate (and merchandise, of course) the event, Disney has tapped designers to create special tees based on the characters. Victor Glemaud took on cowboy Woody, Cassette Playa did astronaut Buzz, and Costello Tagliapietra, Hamm the pig. They’re all available now at Revolve Clothing. [Fashionista]
Beyoncé is reportedly retiring the “Single Ladies” dance. “Single Ladies” dance, we hardly knew ye! Actually, that’s not true—we knew ye pretty well. New York magazine took a moment to remember the highs and lows of the dance craze, and its finest practitioners (from Justin Timberlake to Liza Minnelli). [NY Mag]

What’s Tennis Got To Do With It?
Venus Williams incited a minor international debate with her slightly bordello-ish lace outfit at the French Open a few weeks back. But if you thought that was…well, whatever you thought that was, the unfazed fashion plate promises you ain’t seen nothing yet. “I know that the French Open outfit look caused a stir, but I think the one I will wear in the next couple days will be better yet—it’s all about lace and fringes, a lot of fringes. I’m thinking about Tina Turner here. I am not sure how that is going to go over, but at least I can say that it will catch everyone’s attention.”
For the moment, though, Williams was clad in Ralph Lauren, at RL’s New Bond Street London shop for his annual pre-Wimbledon party. (As the man is preparing to sell a tiny percentage of his company for quite near $1 billion, there was, needless to say, much Champagne flowing.)
Well, if anyone can avert eyes from World Cup mania, it’s Venus—she certainly held her own among Gwyneth Paltrow, her bestie/stylist Elizabeth Saltzman Walker, Matt LeBlanc,Love’s Katie Grand, and of course, Lilly and Boris Becker (pictured above with Williams). But Grand, usually thought of more as LV than RL, only had eyes for shopping. “I was one of the first people here tonight, and I have already ID’ed this chair with the RL crest pillow as the next on my most wanted list,” she said, tucking her feet up into a rattan Montauk-esque jobby. And to go with it? “The navy jacket with the white piping—must, must have it. I am working on it.” Come to think of it, modify it for the court and it might be a good look for Venus, too.
