Prison, poison, amazing costumes, telephone and Beyonce. These are the ingredients of the Lady Gaga new and amazing video clip. Pop music never seemed so cool... |

How does she do it? Most pop stars manage one sensational moment in their careers – perhaps two if they are exceptional. But Lady Gagaseems to be able to grab the headlines of every major media outlet in the world with every act. The launch of her new video “Telephone” has proved to be no different.
The sensational new video also stars the magnificent Beyoncé who previously enlisted Gaga’s help in her own video “Video Phone”. Beyoncé said “It was fun to work with Gaga again. This video was a unique opportunity to do something we think will surprise our fans in a creative, edgy way not always seen”.
The video has been directed by Jonas Akerlund, famous for directing controversial videos such as Prodigy’s “Smack my Bitch up” andMadonna’s “Ray of Light”. With that in mind it is hardly surprising that the video has already been banned from MTV with many other TV stations likely to follow suit due to the graphic images and bad language.
The video starts with Lady Gaga being shown to her cell in a female prison while wearing a stunning number by Jean Charles de Castelbajac – naturally. Once in her cell, the guards strip her and she takes the opportunity to dispel some rumors about herself! (You’ll have to check out the video if you want to know more!) Next, Gaga and some of the other inmates show just how flexible the new underwear fromHaus of Gaga truly is!
After wearing a nice chained number by Viktor & Rolf in the yard she is then bailed out by Beyoncé who just happens to be sitting out front in the famous Pussy Wagon from “Kill Bill” which Quentin Tarantino generously loaned to Gaga for the shoot (Gaga has said that the video was inspired by Tarantino’s work). They then head over to an all American diner where the pair goes on a killing spree with some poisoned honey. The video ends with them doing a very fashionable take on the iconic “Thelma & Louise” film.
Gaga goes through her biggest number of costume changes in this epic 9 minute long video/short film most of which come from the now famous Haus of Gaga fashion label! Each outfit is perfectly accessorized with hair styles to die for, hats, jewelry, shades and shoes. She sports vintage sunglasses from Chanel, a vintage hat fromThierry Mugler, and that wacky telephone hat by Fred Butler.
Beyoncé also gets a pair of Jeremy Scott sunglasses. Lady Gaga has definitely spared no expense while creating her most over-the-top visual phenomenon to date. She said of the work that “There’s always a hidden message in my music videos” adding “I’m always trying to convolute everyone’s idea of what a pop video is”.
You need to watch the full video to get a true idea of just how immense this project must have been – but one thing is for certain, with music videos like this, Lady Gaga is ensuring that she stays at the top of the pop world. |
