Fabio Capello must be relatively pleased as his team will also face Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro following the draw in Warsaw. England last played Wales back in 2005 in a World Cup qualifier, claiming a 1-0 win in Cardiff with Joe Cole grabbing the winner. Scotland have a tough test with new manager Craig Levein seeing his side placed in the same group as holders Spain. Czech Republic, Lithuania and Liechtenstein complete Group I. Republic of Ireland, cruelly denied a place at the World Cup finals after their controversial defeat to France, may feel they are capable of progressing from Group B, which contains Russia, Slovakia, FYR Macedonia, Armenia and Andorra. Nigel Worthington's Northern Ireland face a stiff challenge having been drawn in Group C with world champions Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Estonia and Faroe Islands. As well as local rivals Wales, England face Switzerland, who were the opponents in Fabio Capello's first game in charge, a 2-1 Wembley win. England have never faced Montenegro as an independent nation, but did face Serbia and Montenegro back in 2003. Capello said before the draw he was hoping for a five-team group, so will have been reasonably satisfied. Former England manager Terry Venables believes Capello's side have been given a tough draw. "I think that's one of the harder groups," he told Sky Sports News. "But when you are one the favourites you've just got to say anyone will do. "The top seeds are way ahead of everybody else. "I think Switzerland are a difficult team. I think they've improved tremendously the last few years." John Toshack is relishing the chance to cross swords with Capello at home and away. "Without doubt, drawing England will please all the Welsh fans - there's plenty of history there and we like nothing better than another chance against the old enemy," he stated. "I know Fabio Capello quite well, so will look forward to being able to pit our talents against a powerful England team later in the year."
