British girls gone wild: Fury over plans to bring 'demeaning and exploitative' U.S. show to UK

A notorious television show which encourages drunk women to strip and simulate sex acts should be banned from filming in Britain, MPs said yesterday.
Disgusted politicians described Girls Gone Wild as ‘demeaning, exploitative and casualised prostitution’ and urged the Home Office to stop its makers entering the country.
The show’s creators plan to launch in the UK in the next few weeks after conducting an online poll to find the ‘best venues’ to visit in its infamous tour bus.

The programme, which has been broadcast in the U.S. since 1997, features camera crews approaching intoxicated young women in bars and nightclubs and urging them to expose themselves in return for t–shirts and other merchandise.
Frequently they are also filmed kissing each other and simulating lewd sex acts in front of crowds of young men.
It is expected to be broadcast on a pay–per–view adult channel in the UK that will be available on many digital television packages.
In the U.S. it goes out on cable channels but the franchise also makes massive profits through adult DVDs that are advertised on mainstream TV late at night and sold to a far wider audience.
Pat Glass, the MP for North West Durham, said she was ‘very worried’ by plans to film the programme in Britain.
She added: ‘There is a real concern that this American company is making money out of putting young women in danger and doing it in the name of entertainment.’  Ian Mearns, the MP for Gateshead, has tabled an early day motion  calling on the Home Secretary to ban the filmmakers from operating in Britain.
Participants in the show will be encouraged to carry out sexual exploits in return for merchandise. On Tuesday's programme one of the cast of Geordie Shore flashed her breasts at boys in a hot tub

He fears the show’s creators, Mantra Films, will make Newcastle an early target because of the city’s party-loving reputation.
‘I want the Home Office to see if this company can be prevented from coming into the country,’ he said. ‘This is not in the best interests of young people.’
His motion states: ‘This is a form of demeaning, exploitative and casualised prostitution; and we urge the Government to examine, as a matter of urgency, how it can protect young women and halt this attempt at sensationalist entertainment.’
The show’s tour bus is expected to visit some of Britain’s major cities and smaller towns, such as Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, Weston-super-Mare in Somerset and Cardigan in Wales.
Earlier this year a spokesman for the Girls Gone Wild tour said: ‘We expect British young men and women to have a fantastic time at the events which are a really fun celebration of freedom and youthful expression.’
