The versatile Austrian is out of contract in the summer and won't be taking up the option of another year. After growing frustrated with battling against relegation, he is seeking a fresh challenge away from Roberto Martinez's side. "Every year, we fight against relegation," he stated. "And that absolutely does not interest me any more." Scharner has also been frustrated with the quality of the pitch at the DW Stadium but the surface is being relaid ahead of Liverpool's visit on Monday night. The 29-year-old appeared to criticise Martinez's recruitment policy. "In England, a relegation battle is like going to war," he told Sportnet. "We signed ten players in the summer who are not aware of this because they had no Premier League experience. "A draw on Monday [against Liverpool] would be no use. We need three points so that our negative run is finally over."
