On Our Radar: Saltalamacchia

Looking through Maria Cornejo’s Resort ‘11 collection, I found myself coming back again and again to the chunky wooden accessories shown with the label’s wares. They’re the work of Victoria Simes, who works with Cornejo and styles her shows but also finds time to design her own jewelry line, Saltalamacchia—hence the cuffs and necklaces. They’re made from cut red oak and wrapped in knotted leather in the palette of the collection. Cornejo has shown Saltalamacchia on her runway before, though Simes told Dossierthat some people found those knotted horsehair and human-hair pieces “a little freaky.” I’m afraid to report I fall into that category myself, but I’ve got no complaints about these. They’ll be available at Zero + Maria Cornejo’s two boutiques mid-November.
