Woods: set to face the media on the Monday before The Masters

It has been confirmed that Tiger Woods will face the media before The Masters gets underway at Augusta National next month.

The world number one chose the season's first major as the event at which to make his comeback to competitive golf following his "indefinite break" from the sport.

Woods temporarily stepped away from his golfing career following revelations about a series of extramarital affairs he had conducted.

After making a public apology for his actions in February, he revealed earlier this month that he would be returning to action at Augusta.

Since then he has given two pre-arranged five-minute interviews to selected media outlets, but he will now be required to face the entire press-pack at Augusta.

The Augusta National Golf Club, organisers of the Masters, announced on Wednesday that Woods has been scheduled for a pre-tournament media conference at Augusta on April 5.

It will be the first time Woods has to face the music in a room full of reporters, not hand picked by him, and not restricted to certain questions since he crashed his SUV into a tree on November 27, sparking the infidelity scandal that rocked the golfing world.

The Masters only recently began conducting a press conference on the Monday of tournament week, usually for players with limited news interest because many members of the media do not normally arrive at Augusta until Tuesday, the PGA Tour's traditional pre-tournament media conference day.

In this instance, however, they certainly will. Woods is the only player scheduled for an interview on Monday while other big guns like Phil Mickelson, Geoff Ogilvy and Jack Nicklaus will meet the media on Tuesday.
