The catwalks bid farewell to Claudia

Claudia Schiffer has decided after 20 years on the runway that she will no longer walk the catwalk. See you in the front row, Claudia

Beautiful faces come and go in this fickle fashion world we live in. Some will surely be forgotten, but others will stay forever. Just like Marilyn Monroe with her notorious red dress, models and actresses alike manage to become larger than life. On October 07th 2009 another fashion icon announced their retirement. The Daily Telegraph reported that Claudia Schiffer has decided after 20 years on the runway that she will no longer walk the catwalk. She will still continue to model but has left the catwalks behind. Schiffer stated, "I can sit on the side and view the outfits and see all the detail and that suits me fine. It's very enjoyable. I like my new viewpoint."

Shiffer (39) did not always dream of becoming a top model. As a child she wanted to become a lawyer in her fathers firm. In 1987 she was spotted by a modeling agency who signed her on the spot. A short time after this, Karl Lagerfeld made Schiffer the new face of the ever famous Chanel fashion house. Lagerfeld once said that there is no way that a photo taken with Claudia Schiffer will turn out bad. Lagerfeld stated, "She has an affair with the camera".

At the beginning of the 90's Shiffer was the face of "Guess?" jeans adverts and after that Revlon signed a 10 million dollar contract with the German beauty. This step turned Schiffer into the most highly paid model around the globe at that time.

Claudia Shiffer entered the "Guinness book of world records" as the model who starred in more than 700 different covers of magazines. She was the first to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. In the 90’s People magazine chose her as the worlds prettiest model.

Just like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and others before them, Claudia Shiffer decided that now is the best time for her to quit the catwalk.

After more than 20 years in the spotlights, Shiffer wants to spend time with her 2 children Caspar Matthew and daughter Clementine de Vere Drummond. Well, if you managed to earn more than 38 million pounds and you are just 39, you sure deserve some rest… farewell Claudia- the catwalks will surely miss your presence ON the catwalk, see you in the front row!
