Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire focuses on family as poker lawsuit becomes a very tangled web

It looks like Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire is not the only talented action man in the family.
The star laughed as he gave his adorable son Otis a push on a swing at a playground in Californian city Santa Monica today.
And with the actor’s high-stakes Hollywood poker ring being linked with a world wide web of crime, a lazy afternoon was no doubt a respite from his recent woes.
In legal papers filed today he revealed he had handed over almost $200,000 to corrupt hedge fund manager Bradley Ruderman, who spent his client's money on his gambling habit.

The A-lister was joined by his jewellery designer wife Jennifer Meyer as he took Otis, two, and five-year-old Ruby out for a fun treat.
Vegan Tobey looked in good shape as he messed around with his kids in the sand-filled playground.
He wore a pair of fetching black sunglasses, plain white T-shirt, jeans and trainers for the fun-filled trip.
And the responsible dad made sure his kids never left his sight, and held daughter Ruby’s hand as they walked down the street.
Tobey’s responsible streak seems to have come in handy when he allegedly raked in millions from an illegal Hollywood poker ring that has been linked to the notoriously violent Russian mob.

Maguire has been reported as winning up to $40million in the games, where he played alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Dan Blizerian, one of the Hollywood poker sharks being sued in connection with the illegal gambling ring blasted the Seabiscuit star and claimed he managed to win because he is tight-fisted.
He said: ‘'He's cheap as f*** and plays like a cheap b****... a guy who's worth all that money playing as if he's broke. Come on, dude.’
However he posted a response today to the lawsuit that named him as part of an illegal gambling ring with criminal Bradley Ruderman.
Ruderman is in prison for running a ponzi scheme that lost his clients approximately $25 million. Maguire is being sued by trustees for his winnings in the unlicensed poker games with Ruderman in an attempt to recoup the losses encountered by the criminal's clients.

The actor previously confessed to having earned $187,000 in winnings from the gambling ring, but denied any intentional wrongdoing.
He has has now filed documents revealing that he suffered losses at the hands of Ruderman, citing these losses as a reason why he should not have to return his winnings.
The documents included three of Maguire's checks, which show that the actor paid Ruderman a total of $168,500 between July 2007 and January 2009.
They also revealed the star played so much poker he had two separate bank accounts for poker from which he paid out cash.

Molly Bloom, 33, the ringleader behind the games, was beaten up after fleeing from Los Angeles to New York, according to Star magazine.
The California games finished in 2009 and she started up a similar ring for Wall Street workers before the attack happened.
Insiders told Star that the Russian mob joined in the secret high-stakes games and may have been behind her beating.
Bloom’s friend told Star that she thinks the attack has ‘something to do with mobsters’, but her lawyer Ronald Richards has denied a connection.

However he did confirm she was attacked in New York nine months ago and said the matter was dealt with at the time.
Bloom, the sister of two-time U.S. Olympian Jeremy Bloom, has admitted that she owned a New York poker table to conduct games.
Maguire reportedly won more than $300,000 from a convicted hedge fund manager at the games twice a week in Beverley Hills hotels.
Brad Ruderman, ex-CEO of Ruderman Capital Partners, settled debts with stolen money, lawsuits filed against Maguire and others claimed.

DiCaprio, Affleck and Damon have not been sued - and none of the participants are under criminal investigation.
Maguire has hired a lawyer to defend the allegations made against him, claiming the games were not illegal.
He is set to return to cinemas this year in indie black comedy The Details, which sees a troubled married couple have their garden overrun by raccoons.
